I’m not sure if you noticed, but I’m super into skincare right now – even more than makeup. Now that I’m “in my thirties” it’s prime time for being proactive and ensuring your skin stays clear and healthy, and also maybe being aware of some things you didn’t notice when you were in your twenties. I don’t believe there’s a fountain of youth (although if you have the map, feel free to send it my way) but I do think there are plenty of things you can do that will make your skin look better, brighter, and more hydrated. I’ve also incorporated some fun stuff into my night time skin care regimen that makes the process something calming and pleasant – a few minutes I take to pamper myself, so it doesn’t seem like a chore. I’ve heard a lot of things about Ole Henriksen products and I thought I’d give them a try: I bought the trio of vitamin C-based products—moisturizer, serum, and eye cream.
The Truth Serum Collagen Booster with Vitamin C has orange and grapefruit extract to promote natural cell turnover and skin brightening, as well as concentrated vitamin C that’s already found in the body, which apparently is “ the primary water-soluble antioxidant in the body, disarming free radicals and preventing damage.” This mix of natural extracts and wonderment is supposed to encourage collagen production, which reduces the appearance of fine lines and basically makes your skin look healthy and smooth. This light, fresh oil goes on after cleansing your skin, and since I’m a huge fan of serums and oils, I loved this one. Not too heavy, and wonderfully moisturizing.
Then comes the Truth Crème Vitamin C Advanced Hydration facial cream, which contains most of the same stuff as the first but has a light yet luxurious creamy feel. This goes on after the serum oil to hold in and absorb all that moisture, which is perfect right about now if you live anywhere that’s currently about -99 C. This one has a light vanilla and orange scent that’s subtle and delicious but does not make you think of dessert which I think is probably a good thing. Use this morning or night, with or without any other products, as a moisturizing pick-me-up.
Lastly is the Total Truth Eye Crème with SPF 15. Look, I don’t even really have wrinkles yet but it doesn’t hurt to take special care of the especially sensitive parts of your body – the skin around your eyes is very thin and delicate, which is why after a rough night, your eyes usually looks like hell. Similar to the thin skin on your hands and décolletage, these are some of the first places to show wear and tear and are also the first places to be abused by the sun and the wind, so a nice little dab of this eye cream every morning can go a long way. And a little SPF 15 never hurt anyone, either – even in the winter months, when that freezing yet blinding sun reflects off the snow and ice.
After this first purchase, I’m officially an Ole Henriksen fan. Reasonably priced, you can often find package deals at Sephora (in other news, please keep me away from that store). These quality products sink nicely into skin without feeling heavy or greasy at all, and have a pleasant, natural scent—often times I may love a product’s natural ingredients but find the scents too overpoweringly floral or harsh. The products are supposed to work for any skin type, but for reference, I have medium combination skin and that doesn’t tend to get particularly greasy or dry, and this worked great for me.
Have you tried any Ole Henriksen products? What did you think?
