WholeMe granola and bars = delish

In my constant quest to eat all the things, as well as search out delicious food that is also healthy, I came across WholeMe, created by two women who seem to share my passion for delicious food with ingredients you can pronounce. The aim with their granola and bars is to provide nutrient-dense and convenient foods that taste good and feature only natural ingredients. And after eating a bunch of it this past weekend, I can confirm that they have succeeded. Thanks WholeMe!

Clockwise, from top: yum, yum, and yum.

The “date me” bar is grain free, gluten free, and dairy free and packed full of dates and pecans. The texture is much looser, softer, and fresher tasting than most date and nut bars – not a densely packed brick so much as a cakey breakfast treat. It’s sweet, but not overly so- probably because it has no added sweetener, only some almonds and coconut and vanilla oils to round out the ingredients. The moistness and loose, cake texture make this one a winner.

If you need something a little heartier, the almond cluster cereal would fortify the hardiest of hikers, with thick, moist hunks of almonds, coconut, honey, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, coconut oil, and salt. The fragrant taste of sweet almond is the top note with this one, so if you’re an almond fan, pick some of this up.

Finally, the “wake me” bar, made with cacao nibs and espresso, was my favourite. It has that loose, cakey texture of the other bar, but is less sweet with a mild coffee flavour and a bit of textural interest from the cacao nibs. Delicious, and full of healthy fat and coffee, two of my favourite things.

If life were perfect, we would all eat perfectly prepared eggs, bacon, and avocado every morning for breakfast (even that one vegetarian friend of mine), but life isn’t perfect. However, these tasty treats from WholeMe are pretty darn close to perfection, and make a great meal substitute when you’re on the run.
